A Cold Wind is Blowing
As I stand at the sink today I know that there’s no chance that I’m going for a walk later. Outside the wind is blowing the tops of the trees so that they appear to be participating in a ritual dance. Not wanting to participate in that ritual, I am staying right here in my warm and cozy little kitchen.
As I watch the trees, I can’t help but think of all the rituals that are being readied in Washington this week. We have a new President preparing to take office and one that is preparing to take some time off. We have one administration that is, most likely feeling weary and spent while one is gearing up and ready to go.
I think this may be the best part of living in a democracy. No matter what your politics or party affiliation, perhaps it will give you comfort to think about how our government renews itself with fresh energy and drive every four or eight years. Maybe that new energy really does help get things done.
When God created the world He worked for a while and then He took a day off. He designed our bodies to work all day and then take the night off to regenerate and heal. There are those who believe that American voters have become disenchanted with their government as a whole, and that is why we seem to be in a cycle of alternately electing people from the party that hasn’t been in power for a while. “Give them a chance and see what they can do” may be just the thing we need. I don’t know…I’m not a particularly educated political thinker, but I do think we should embrace the possibility of a better tomorrow, no matter who is in White House. Perhaps the political changes that we’ll see as a new man sits at the desk in the Oval Office will be just the thing our country needs…perhaps they won’t.
But let’s support our President and our nation while we wait for history to sort it all out. I’m extending my hand to every American who would like to join together and be “One Nation Under God.”
